Folio 03The referral ledger

Passed, contacted, met, closed, thanked

Your referral ledger

One row for every referral you give or receive. Stamp it as it moves. Tick the thank-you once it is sent. The totals below are worked out only from the rows you enter.

What the stamps mean

These are this desk’s own labels. Your group may use different words, and that is fine. Pick the stamp that is closest to the truth and keep a note for the rest.

Passed
The lead has been handed on. Nothing has happened yet on the other side.
Contacted
The two people have spoken, written or been introduced.
Meeting set
A time to meet or talk properly is in the diary.
Closed
The referral reached a result you are happy to record, whether that is work agreed or work done.
Not a fit
It was not right for this member. Saying so early is a kindness, not a failure.

How the ledger works

Assumptions

  • Every total is counted from the rows in your browser. There is no sample data behind them, and no one else’s numbers.
  • The balance is a glance, not a score. It says how many more you have passed than received, or the other way round.
  • Thank-yous are tracked for received referrals only. For referrals you give, the note field is the place for what you hear back.
  • Values are optional, in whatever currency you use, and add up only on rows stamped Closed.
  • Example rows are flagged and counted like any other row while they are there. Remove them with one button.

Edge cases

  • Empty names, missing dates or negative values bring up a plain message and nothing is added.
  • Deleting a row offers an undo for as long as the page is open. Clearing everything can be undone too.
  • Rows live in this browser on this device. Export a CSV before you clear browser data or change machines.
  • Spreadsheet formulas typed into a field are neutralised in the export so they open as plain text.
  • If storage is blocked, a message appears and rows last only until the tab is closed.
